Water – Water
A few weeks ago we had a blog discussion about rainwater harvesting and we had some of the area prepped. After a considerable amount of work and planning, we now have a 30,000-gallon tank to collect rainwater.
All systems are working. A few days ago we had a storm come through where we had a little over 1″ of rain. I woke up early in the morning and went to check our system and tank. Happy dance! We had added almost 2,000 gallons of water. I have a site glass where I can make an educated guess on how much water I have. The roof over a period of time collects all sorts of dust and bird stuff that you don’t want to go into the tank and we built something called the first flush. The first flush collectors did their job collecting the debris on the first bit of rain.
It took a bit of work to get the sand and tank area level. The tank needs to sit on at least 6″ of sand and be perfectly level. We got it level with only an inch or so of variance on the sand pad which is 35 feet across. The base took 3 dump truckloads of sand.
We bought the tank from Pioneer. Excellent value and the crew was great and very professional. They put the tank up in about 5 hours. We connected the pipes the next day and waited for the rainstorm.
